Fall Planting Season
If you want something a bit different, consider planting the spring-bloomer called the Japanese cobra lily, a tuberous woodland native to Japan. It is a feast for the eyes in its design and color. This plant is a close relative of the South Carolina native called Jack-in-the-pulpit and rises to a foot or more in height in the spring before sending out its pitcher-shaped flower: black-purple with thin white stripes.
