Pawley’s Island Golf Course Opening Pushed Back
The Founders Club in Pawley’s Island, which was supposed to have opened its greens this past Labor Day weekend, has rescheduled its opening to February 1, 2008. Located on the site of the old Sea Gull Golf Club, the course received an overhaul and new design courtesy of architect Thomas Walker, formerly of Gary Player Design. Freshly manicured bunkers and lush grasses are immediately noticeable now, but according to course owners, it’s not quite as perfect as they’d like it to be, yet. At a minimum, delaying the opening will allow the golf course to mature further on the fairways and for pond levels to elevate to the intended height. After spending millions, management would rather wait a few months than risk making a less-than-spectacular impression upon any would-be Myrtle Beach golf enthusiasts trying to play the course as it is now. Our golfers can’t wait to check it out!
