To Promote Secession or Not
The Civil War began in April, 1861, with the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor and ended on April 18, 1865. The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant, SC, is considering a proposal by the Confederate Veterans' group to erect a granite monument to the state's secession from the Union. On the stone, they plan to place the name of each of the 170 signers of the state's secession document.
