Myrtle Beach Roadways Keep Getting Better
There's buzz on the street these days about widening Ocean Boulevard to three lanes. A study conducted by an Atlanta-based firm suggested that Sixth Avenue South to 17th Avenue North would benefit from the improvement by easing traffic flow during the summer months, while increasing safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Additionally, the firm recommended that U.S. 501 and Seventh Avenue South be connected to help ease the strain on the Kings Highway Eighth and Ninth Avenues North. One reason the study came about was because of the obvious issue of large delivery trucks often blocking sections of lanes while servicing the many businesses along that road. In response, drivers are forced to cut inside the other lane to avoid hitting them. The plan went on to further suggest raised medians be placed between the lanes to provide pedestrians a safer spot to wait during traffic crossing, and also elevated intersections to better control traffic direction. The city council, so far, has reacted positively, knowing the changes would benefit both residents and people down on Myrtle Beach vacations, as well as open the door to more development interest in those areas.
