Is this the view you're looking for while you're on vacation? Something really close to the ocean so that you can scamper down and get your feet wet any time you want? Well, we have it waiting for you, here at the Grande Shores!
For the past several months, school-aged children, indeed children of all ages, have been counting down to the day when their summer vacations can begin. Freedom of movement! Bare feet in sand and surf! Relaxation from the sun's warmth!
Those who planned their vacations back in winter are arriving now with their beach blankets, umbrellas, and inflatables, ready to have the experience that they longed for all during the cold months. Others booking for later in the summer, perhaps to enjoy Fourth of July here at Grande Shores, can't wait! We know this from reading the comments in Facebook!
Have you made plans yet for the 4th? Consider spending it at oceanfront, cool beverage in hand, soft sea breezes wafting in over your gently bronzing body that feels absolutely rested in a horizontal position by the pool. We have the fun, sun, fireworks, food, and much more, so give us a call to line up something delightful for 4th of July, 2010, or perhaps for later in the summer, maybe even after Labor Day! Our warm weather is beach-quality well into October!

Meet Krisimir Enev from Bulgaria, now in his third summer working with the Grande Shores' Food and Beverage team. Last year he decided to work in Greece, but memories of Myrtle Beach lingered so strongly with him that he contacted us for a return this summer, 2010. We're so glad he did because he is very friendly and congenial with our guests, enjoying conversations about Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. Feel free to stop by the pool bar and the Shoreline Café where you might find him working to make our guests' stays extra special. He will also be involved when we have special functions and banquets. His easy-going manner and loyalty to Grande Shores make him a delightful team member here at the Resort.
Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts' Heart Walk
Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's premier fund raising event to combat heart disease. Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts is participating in Heart Walk through team organization by departments across our sister properties. The names of the teams are as follows:

- FRIENDLY BETABLOCKERS - Food and Beverages
- KEEP ON TICKING - Front Desks / Reservations
- HEART CLEANERS - Housekeeping
- THE TRANSPLANTS - Maintenance
With an overall goal of raising $3,000 by the October 16th walk, participants are busy organizing their teams and accepting donations on their behalf for the walk. Look for more on this effort in coming newsletters.
Featured Recipe - Fantastic Tuna Salad
Tuna salad that serves 8 usually makes enough for lunch, but this recipe is so tasty that the entire amount might disappear with fewer people around the table. Only 205 calories per serving, too.
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 1 (12 ounce) can white tuna
- 1 (6 ounce) can crabmeat, shredded
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon sour cream
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
- 1/8 teaspoon lemon pepper
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- 3/4 cup finely chopped onion
Directions:
- Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, peel and chop finely.
- In a mixing bowl, combine tuna, crabmeat, mayonnaise, sour cream and mustard. Stir in chopped egg, dill weed, lemon pepper, dill and sweet relish and chopped onion. Mix thoroughly. Salt and pepper to taste.
- Serving options include on crackers, with sliced and toasted French bread, on a layer of salad greens, or stuffed into half of a tomato (scooped out). Be sure to refrigerate the final concoction, especially in our summer's heat.

I liked the pools at this hotel. We went before Memorial Day, and it was not at all crowded. I like the location of the hotel.

I really loved our stay. My mother is disabled, and we were able to park very near our room. My 4-year-old daughter loved the beach access and the pools. My spouse and I snuck off and had a moonlight stroll on the beach. We were close to everything, but not overcrowded by people. We all couldn't have had a better time.

Just home from a great week at Grande Shores. The 3 bedroom unit we had was awesome. I highly recommend this place.

According to a recent study, regular coffee drinkers gradually feel less energy from their caffeine intake with each day of coffee. Have you noticed that your morning coffee just doesn't perk you up as it once did? You're right. Your body's withdrawal from caffeine during the overnight hours prevents you from being pepped with the morning cup(s) of coffee. You are just less fatigued, not energized.

The floating Ivory soap bar came about accidently. Its producers over-mixed the soap formula, causing excess air bubbles that made it float. Customers wrote in, describing how much they loved that the soap's bouyancy. The soap has floated ever since.
The average American drinks about 600 sodas a year. If a 20-ounce soda contains 200-320 calories, then 600 of them contains 120,000 to 192,000 calories a year. A pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories, so from soda alone that's approximately 35 pounds of added fat for the average soda drinker for a given year.
For weight loss, consuming just 175 fewer calories per day means a loss of 1 pound every 20 days.
Weight loss is hard, but when we gain control of our diet and exercise balance, then we can work on the consumption of the 35,000 cookies that some statistician said we eat in a lifetime. No word on whether those were chocolate chip or oatmeal, though.
The characters Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street were named after the movie characters Bert the cop and Ernie the taxi driver in Frank Capra's famous film "Its A Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart.
The English language is one of the more difficult languages to learn. Here is one example of why. How do you pronounce "ough" as in "rough"? Actually, those same letters can be pronounced 9 different ways:
"A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed."
