PGA Drug Testing?
To combat the across-the-board issue of performance enhancement doping and illegal drug use by players in all major sports, six organizations in the golf world have tentatively agreed to adopt anti-drug policies. The Ladies Professional Golf Association, PGA of America, PGA Tour, European Tour, R & A for the British Open and USGA for the US Open, US Senior Open and US Women's Open are now all on board for developing player education and specific policies and procedures of dealing with the issue once practices are officially in place. A Model Prohibited Substance and Methods List, testing parameters, management of results, sanctions, penalties and medical waiver protocols will become the standards by which each of the governing bodies will manage the issue. Currently, the new regulations are scheduled to roll out in 2008. Although the heads of these associations deny having problems with its players today, industry pressure forced some type of action take place.
